Benghazi Draws World’s Urban Planners for Landmark 2050 Vision.
BENGHAZI — The Fund for Development and Reconstruction of Libya (FDRL), a key development institution under the Benghazi-based government, is hosting one of the largest international urban planning events in the country.
Led by FDRL Director General Eng. Belgasem Khalifa Haftar, the Global Competitive Urban Planning Initiative Benghazi (GCUPI-B) brings hundreds of international and national companies to Benghazi on 6–8 September 2026 to present their designs and ideas for Libya’s urban future.
The initiative, launched with the Urban Planning Authority, aims to build an integrated master plan for Benghazi 2050, covering urban, economic, social and environmental development, with a focus on the city’s Central Business District.
The three-day event features exhibitions, executive reviews and company presentations. Firms advancing through the process will sign memoranda of understanding with the fund on the final day.
